Mistletoe and Whine!
‘Tis the season to be bloated, but it seems that we’re more intolerant to novelty Christmas songs, never ending carols, and Cliff Richard!
We can reveal that novelty singles and X Factor winners topped the list of irritations in the Lactofree Christmas intolerance survey, with one quarter of people polled saying just the anticipation was enough to get intolerance levels rising.
Festive warbler Cliff Richard was also high in the annoyance stakes, racking up 29% of votes, with over half of us finding queues in shops the hardest to bear, and a third finding endless cheesy Christmas carols just too much to take.
Our survey of 4,000 adults also uncovered some of the most peculiar family traditions, from mandatory fancy dress on Christmas day (donkeys seem to be a popular choice for those celebrating the Nativity) to having all the presents for the entire family opened by dad – how annoying!
Samantha Glassford, Lactofree’s Brand Manager, said: ‘‘This survey shows, even in the season of goodwill, how intolerant we can be as a nation. For those suffering from food or lactose intolerance as well, Christmas could certainly add to the stress! This is one intolerance that Lactofree can deal with, however, it can’t ease the annoyance of an X Factor Christmas number one!”
