'Chavs' Voted Top Intolerance!
While lactose is at the top of our intolerances, it’s the supposedly uncultured, anti-social, fake designer clothes and baseball cap wearing youths labelled as ‘chavs’ that the nation is most intolerant to, according to our poll of Britain’s annoyances.
Over 60% cited the new breed of youth as the thing that annoys them the most in Lactofree’s Annual Intolerance Survey. 79% of those 3,000 polled admitted that it’s simply the little things in life, such as ‘chavs’, that wind them up easily – to the point where 65% of us are driven to distraction.
And it’s not just that particular group of people whom we proud Brits find annoying, but certain celebrities are also pushing the boundaries of our tolerance levels. Nearly 40% cited the ‘nations obsession with z-list celebrities’ as something they find ‘very annoying’ followed closely by the obsession with the Katie Price and Peter Andre split saga (38%) alongside coverage of Michael Jackson’s death (28%)
Bad manners and poor personal hygiene also featured highly on the list. Over half the nation (52%) expressed annoyance for those who smell, 50% for those who eat with their mouths open, 49% for those who cough and do not cover their mouths and 44% chiding those who are noisy eaters.
Surprisingly, MP expenses and the recession came low on the list of the nation’s top annoyances with only a third of the nation finding the recent economic revelations a strain on their reserve. Even bankers have escaped the fate, with only 13% of the UK finding them to be irritating.
Samantha Glassford, Lactofree’s Brand Manager said: ‘‘This survey shows how intolerant we are as a nation, and how even the smallest of things annoy us – especially when, for many, their annoyances are driving them distraction. This year the poll has shown how especially irritated we are by other people and their bad habits and how surprisingly low a nationwide burden such as the recession came in the annoyance list.”
‘‘For many of us, there really isn’t a cure for these everyday intolerances, yet when it comes to those food intolerances, there can be a solution. Lactofree, for example, will help those with lactose intolerance enjoy dairy again without any of the symptoms such as bloating, flatulence and feeling sluggish, so that’s one intolerance that can be dealt with!”
