Our First Guest Editor!
Meet Sara Habein, the author of the blog When Dairy is Not Your Friend. We invited Sara to be a guest editor of our news section here at Lactofree.co.uk and share some of the nifty lactose free recipes she’s crafted. You’ll be seeing several of her ideas over the next few weeks, right here at Lactofree.co.uk.
“I’m business manager for a photography company, a writer, and mother/wrangler of two small children. When I first developed lactose intolerance close to ten years ago, the food options felt so limiting, and it took a few years to figure out what worked and what didn’t. Lactose-free options at the grocery store have increased, but the biggest help to me was learning how to cook.
I make a variety of dishes that are either dairy-free, use lactose-free products or other good substitutions. I also learned how very important it is to read the labels on everything I buy because foods can be quite sneaky. That is, things you’d never expect to contain lactose sometimes do.
I started my blog, When Dairy is Not Your Friend, because I noticed a lack of ‘real-world’ coverage on the condition. Being someone on the severe end of lactose intolerance, I thought I could add some perspective and let people know that one can still eat well while avoiding lactose.
The condition does not adversely affect my life, though it is frustrating sometimes. I want to give any help I can to someone trying to figure out what works.”
Our thanks to Sara for contributing, and make sure to look out for Sara’s recipes coming up in the next few weeks on Lactofree.co.uk!
