Celebrate New Year – Chinese Style!

This week marks a very festive event – Chinese New Year! Celebrate with our recipes that are completely lactose-free.

The Chinese lunar calendar is made up of a cycle of twelve years, each named after an animal. 2011 marks the Year of the Rabbit and the 4709th year on the Chinese calendar.

There are a variety of customs celebrated at this time of year, but mainly it is a time to remember the family and wish everyone peace and prosperity in the coming year – over a good lactose free meal of course!

Try your hand at our Pork Spring Rolls or Soft White Cheese Wontons, but whatever you make on the night, ensure that you serve this deliciously simply Steamed Sweet Egg Custard for dessert!

Ingredients:
25g rock sugar
4 tbsp hot water
250ml Lactofree whole
2 large eggs

Method:
1. Dissolve the rock sugar with the hot water. Mix in the Lactofree whole and eggs.
2. Pass the mixture through a sieve and into two bowls. Cover each bowl with a piece of foil.
3. Bring a large saucepan of water to the boil. Turn the heat down to low, place the bowls into a steamer, insert, cover and cook for 10 minutes.
