Primary Health Care – Lactofree Support

Hi Mary, Galactosaemia is caused by galactose. Lactose is broken down into glucose and galactose by lactase, the enzyme present in the stomach. It is possible that galactose can be present in Lactofree milk. It should therefore not be given to children with galactosaemia.
