I can eat cheese for the first time in years!

My first indication that I had something wrong was when I noticed that I would get a runny nose after drinking milk. I did not think much about it, until my real problems began after a bout of food poisoning. I was given antibiotics to combat the infection and after that, noticed that I suffered from diarrhoea every time I ate dairy products. I also found that if I ate dairy on a regular basis, no matter how small an amount, I would get severe lower back pain. I have since been told that the bowel has a connection to one of the vertebrae in the lower spine which explains that symptom.

I discovered I was lactose intolerant by following the Elimination Diet – removing dairy produce from my diet and then re-introducing certain items to see the effect.

I now read labels on products and only eat those that have no dairy content. I avoid supermarket bakeries, as they use milk products in white bread, and I eat fish, nuts, and dark green vegetables to make sure there is enough calcium in my diet.

I found out about Lactofree on the Internet and think it’s fantastic! I can use the products to make pancakes, cakes, custard, and sauces, which the whole family can eat and enjoy. I have a pack of Lactofree soft white cheese in the fridge – the first cheese I’ve eaten in four years!

To people who think they might be lactose intolerant, I would suggest cutting out any foods with a dairy element, and then introduce them slowly to gauge the effect. Remember that plain Hobnob biscuits are dairy free and, of course, the delicious Lactofree products make it much easier to deal with!
