My daughter is a different person thanks to Lactofree!

Our experience of having a lactose intolerant daughter is now one of relief but at the time was very worrying as the majority of the tests were for more serious conditions like Colitis and Coeliac disease. My daughter Emily had lost a substantial amount of weight and was very tired and lethargic. She constantly felt gassy, full up, and was scared to go anywhere in case she needed the toilet.
Lactose intolerance had a huge impact on Emily’s life. She gave up activities such as sport, and was teased by classmates if she needed to use the toilet, or did not make it in time. She was very unhappy, so we visited the doctor to find out what was causing the problems that were plaguing her life.
After a number of tests, Emily was referred to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where further tests diagnosed her with lactose intolerance.
Once we had some guidance it was easier to sort through food and sift supermarket shelves to find appropriate food for Emily to have. While extremely worthwhile, this process is very time consuming and hampered by the lack of information in supermarkets. We found the internet is a far better place for information, together with dieticians working alongside hospital consultants.
Emily has flourished so much with the additions to the Lactofree range making her feel more in tune with ‘normal’ food. She can now have cheese sandwiches again and actually looks forward to lunchtimes at school – something that she used to dread.
She is now able to embrace life, she is a keen sports person and now with new found confidence is grabbing it with both hands, she achieves everything she sets out to do and enjoys it all the way. Yes it was embarrassing to start with, but now she looks at her intolerance to mean ‘I am special’. Needless to say we are biased, but the teachers adore her forthrightness and ‘special’ personality. It is actually becoming the making of her!
