How Lactofree helped my M.E.

How Lactofree helped my M.E.

Submitted by Rachel Baker

I’ve suffered from M.E. and lactose intolerance for over 15 years, I’m 30 next month. At my worst, I was completely housebound for a year. I think that eating the dairy products – that I love – exacerbate my M.E. as my body can’t digest dairy or break it down, making my weak and exhausted body even more so!

As dairy is my favourite food in the whole world, it is really difficult to give up. When I was about 18 I saw a dietician who gave me a non dairy diet. I could cut out dairy for a few weeks by going cold turkey. But after a few weeks I would crave it in the middle of the night and have to get up at 2am to make lurpack and cheese and beans on toast!

Since discovering the Lactofree cream cheese, I can satisfy my cream cheese and baked on toast fixation without being ill afterwards – yay!

It’s only this year that I’ve managed to get my health under control. I’ve held down a part time job as a communications officer in a busy press office for over a year now. And last month I completed an 11 mile, midnight walk for a local hospice in 3 hours and 20 minutes. I also try to run 2miles every night now. I also just passed my CIPR internal comms certificate with merit by doing a Saturday course after working all week.

Several years ago I couldn’t have even imagined doing all the things I’m doing and achieving now. I’ve only been able to manage this since managing my M.E. and sorting out my diet was a big part of this.
